A lot of new details for upcoming projects at Walt Disney World have been announced this morning at D23’s Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, including an update on the new nighttime spectacular that will be replacing Illuminations at Epcot. Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek revealed that the new show will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will include large floating set pieces with LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers. The new nighttime spectacular is planned to open at Epcot in 2020.
There will be a period between the end of Illuminations and before the new show debuts, and Bob Chapek has shared that there will be a limited-time experience called “Epcot Forever,” which will debut in fall 2019. The new experience will include classic Epcot tunes that begins with a spark of imagination that grows into a spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites.
